Kilgraney Country House gets its name from the Irish "Cill
Greine," which translates to "Sunny Hill" or
"Sunny Wood." The oldest part of the house dates back
to the mid-18th century, but the main house was constructed
in the 1820s. The house was destroyed by fire in the 1920s and
has been completely rebuilt with an exquisitely detailed decor
that brings the period of the house to life, while at the same
time providing guests with a home-from-home atmosphere of simple
elegance. All bedrooms are en-suite and individually decorated.
The house is set on five privately owned acres which have been
thoroughly landscaped to include a Kitchen Garden that supplied
the house with fruit, vegetables, salads and herbs. The Tea
Walk is a gravel path lined on both sides with plants suitable
for infusions and herbal teas. The Medicinal Garden contains
several raised bed, each planted with herbs suitable for treating
particular ailments. The Aromatic Garden is planted with those
herbs with the most fragrance. The Medieval Garden includes
traditional herbs used in medieval times. And the Cosmic Garden
is designed in a wheel shaped pattern with twelve sections,
each one dedicated to herbs associated with a different sign
of the zodiac. The gardens are open to the public in summer
months.
The property also includes the Aroma Spa, a bespoke aromatherapy
center for both men and women, which offers a full range of
therapies, including aromatherapy body massage, facial treatments
and herbal body wraps. The spa also includes a relaxation lounge,
sauna, aroma-steam and outdoor thermal tub.
The entire property is nonsmoking.
Kilgraney Country House is the perfect place for a rejuvenating
getaway.
