Ballymaloe is more than just the Georgian country house that
operates as a B&B. Situated on a 400-acre estate, many of
the outbuildings that are in use today date back to the 1600s,
all based around the 15th century Norman castle. All bedrooms
in the house are en-suite and elegantly decorated with period
antiques, many of which have been in the family for many years.
There is a guest lounge available, and guests are welcome to
visit the many areas of the estate, including the walled gardens,
organic farm, garden center, gift shop and the castle ruins.
Within this picturesque setting is the original 16th century
gatekeepers house (not open to the public), a swimming pool
and tennis court.
Ballymaloe is most famous for its cookery school. Day and weekly
courses available to guests with advance reservation, and longer
courses for students wishing a career as a chef. Ballymaloe
has trained many of Ireland's celebrity chefs. Self-catering
accommodation is available for long term guests.
